The Sky is the Limit for MiCard

Recession and time of economic difficulty offer many opportunities. It has often been said of the most enterprising of individuals that they made their move at a time when others were struggling.

This can definitely be said for two UCC graduates who, upon deciding that they both wanted to start a business, did just that and came up with Mi Card.

The two are based in the Rubicon Centre in Cork Institute of Technology (CIT), which plays host to many internationally trading technology companies. They have also been accepted into the prestigious Genesis Enterprise Programme (GEP) and recently came second in the €30,000 'The Sky is the Limit' competition, with the winner being an already established business.

New Announcement for Kernel Capital Investee

Kernel Capital, has confirmed a €1.5m investment in Investee Company MPSTOR Ltd, an Enterprise Ireland HPSU Company and developer of data storage management products. Kernel Capital through The Bank of Ireland Kernel Capital Fund and Asian Investment firm Winning Tack led the investment.  Mr. Kevin Haverty has been appointed as MPSTOR’s new CEO with immediate effect, Mr. Haverty was previously CEO of Mentec International Ltd. The company is based at the Cork Institute of Technology’s Rubicon Centre.

Commenting on the announcement, Frank Ryan, CEO of Enterprise Ireland said: “Enterprise Ireland welcomes this international investment and also the investment by a venture capital fund that’s supported by Enterprise Ireland in this early stage high potential company. These are exactly the type of international linkages that can help young and ambitious companies grow and develop their export markets.”

SCFI - GoingGreen Top 100 Winner

SCFI Group, based in the Rubicon Centre, today announced that it has been chosen by AlwaysOn as one of the GoingGreen Top 100 Winners. Inclusion in the GoingGreen 100 signifies major developments in the creation of new business opportunities in the green technology industries.

John O’Regan of SCFI said he is delighted that Aqua Critox® was selected by AlwaysOn as a Going Green Top 100 Winner; "We believe that Aqua Critox® offers the most sustainable sludge handling method for the 21st Century".

Sweet Victory for Gluten Free Bakery

DeliciousDelicious, Ireland’s Gluten Free Bakery, took two gold medals at the prestigious Great Taste Awards 2009. This is the UK’s most authoritative, independent standard for the fine food sector, as evidenced by its 5,000 competition entrants.

Cork Based Delicious, won two gold stars for its coconut macaroon and one gold star for its gluten free brown bread.  This is the second year running that Delicious has scooped gold at the awards.
