New Phase Of Enterprise Development

New phaseWhen the Rubicon opened in January 2006 it became clear that there was unmet, pent up demand for suitable incubation space in Cork. The Centre, located on campus, offers a current incubation capacity of 1,250sq metres but the rate at which the Rubicon filled was evidence that further space would be required sooner rather than later. In May 2007, as a result of a number of plant closures, a second facility offering an additional 1,000sq metre was opened on the Model Farm Road.  Rubicon 2 is home to Stage 2 type Companies (i.e. those who have been awarded their first orders).

The existing campus facility is too small to cater for the role the Rubicon can play in helping the region reach its potential in terms of a high rate of knowledge intensive start-ups. With this in mind, planning was granted for an extension to the existing Rubicon Centre and work is currently well underway. Upon completion in June 2010, the existing building will have increased to 2,102sq metres, offering much sought after entrepreneurial office space and facilities. The extension will be designed along the same lines of the existing building where natural light and ventilation are to the fore of the design.  The Rubicon Centre is already a signature building on the main thoroughfare through CIT.
