Delicious, Ireland’s Gluten Free Bakery, took two gold medals at the prestigious Great Taste Awards 2009. This is the UK’s most authoritative, independent standard for the fine food sector, as evidenced by its 5,000 competition entrants.
Cork Based Delicious, won two gold stars for its coconut macaroon and one gold star for its gluten free brown bread. This is the second year running that Delicious has scooped gold at the awards.
Delicious founder, Denise O’ Callaghan said “This is our second year to enter the Great Taste Awards and we’re thrilled to have won gold in both years. To have taken a double gold this year was the icing on the cake for us!”
Emma Clarke Conway of The Coeliac Society of Ireland said “we are delighted to hear of Delicious’ recent award. Taste is a huge issue for Coeliacs, faced with a gluten free diet.”
Our Delicious range includes breads, scones, chocolate brownies, flapjacks, birthday cakes and wedding cakes. Delicious was set up by Denise O’ Callaghan in response to her father’s diagnosis with Coeliac Disease. It prompted her to move back to her native Cork and take a career change from investment banking to baking to create tasty gluten free treats.
Denise completed the EnterpriseSTART Programme in 2009 before been selected to participate in this year’s Genesis Enterprise Programme (www.gep.ie), based in the Rubicon Centre in CIT. A year long course for Ireland’s top entrepreneurs, the Genesis programme is hosted by CIT and Enterprise Ireland.
